Saturn Retrograde Calendar

How often is Saturn retrograde? Roughly once a year. Each period runs about 138 days, close to four and a half months, and the next one starts about 378 days after the last. Because 378 days is a little longer than a calendar year, the start slides forward and Saturn spends nearly a third of the time moving backward, which is why the honest answer to "is it happening right now" is usually yes.

Nothing actually reverses. Saturn keeps to its slow orbit, but Earth travels much faster and overtakes it every 378 days. Around the moment we pass it, Saturn appears from here to slow down, stop, drift backward against the stars for months, then stop again before resuming. Saturn is the classical planet of structure, limits, responsibility and time. Because the backward phase returns like a season rather than an event, tradition does not read it as a warning. It reads it as a stocktaking: a stretch better suited to checking whether what has been built actually holds than to laying new foundations.
