Opposition
An opposition is two bodies 180 degrees apart, facing each other across the chart, the aspect of confrontation and of awareness that arrives through another person or another side.
The two signs involved are always the same modality and opposite elements, which is why an opposition reads as a genuine polarity rather than a mismatch. Aries and Libra, Taurus and Scorpio: each pair names two halves of one question.
Traditional astrology counts it among the hard aspects, but its difficulty is specific. A square grinds; an opposition presents. What it presents is often carried by someone else, which is why the seventh house and the opposition share a vocabulary.
Frequently asked
Why do oppositions feel like other people?
Because the aspect faces you across the chart, and the axis it works on is the same one that divides self from partner.
Is an opposition worse than a square?
Not worse, different. A square is friction inside one life; an opposition is a balance that has to be held between two poles.
